This month, we’re delighted to introduce you to another beautiful, talented young woman who’s also, happily for us, an MM customer. Gemma Mary Shepherd is a photographer and creative director with heaps of talent and a love of fashion and portraiture.
Although she’s only in her 20s, she already boasts an impressive résumé: she’s been a finalist in the ELLE Style Reporter competition, worked with Rharha Nembhard, Tony Gum, Selfi, ODE and Lazuli, shot for iMUTE Magazine and Roundtable Journal, and been featured in ELLE and on The Minimale Blog and Bubblegum Club.
We caught up with Gemma recently – this time, she was in front of the camera lens wearing three new looks from our Autumn capsule – and asked her to share her BEST OF with us…
Solange, for obvious reasons. Also, Velma Rosa-Makhandia, Zoe Kravitz, Adwoa Aboah. There are so many people actually – anyone really authentically genuine.
Wembly, but that might just be my cravings speaking. The Kitchen, if I want good, wholesome food. If I’m craving a curry, Bihari or my friend Lisa’s house – Aunty Beryl makes the best curry in Cape Town. For breakfast, Giulio’s.
It really depends on my mood and what I’m doing – generally chilled RNB and Soul. I’m obsessed with Rhye’s new album, but I still listen to SZA’s ‘ctrl’ at least twice a week. Daniel Caesar anytime, anywhere. You’re also always guaranteed to find Aaliyah and Sade essentials on my Apple Music. But to be honest, pretty much the only song I’ve listened to for the past week is ‘Nice for What’ by Drake.
Usually I’m working – either shooting or creating mood boards – but I’m a home body, and
working multiple jobs takes a lot out of me, so when I get weekends off I generally just stay in and realign my energy, binge watching crime documentaries or reading thrillers.
Anywhere near the ocean.
Black linen jumpsuit. I wear it pretty much everywhere – to work with sneakers or to events with a pair of heels. It’s so versatile and comfy to move around in when I’m shooting.
